The musical Hairspray is as much a campy ode to classic rock 'n roll as it is a call to action to stand against racial injustice. Hairspray Live! promises to bring all the fun of the musical to television without sacrificing its powerful message. Hairspray has had a long journey, from an independent 1988 film by cult icon John Waters to major Broadway musical in 2002.
